About Snapping Turtle Farm

Snapping Turtle Farm is a 78 acre organic vegetable and herb farm located in Cranbury, NJ.  About half of these acres remain a mixture of wild woods, wetlands, and brooks while the other half is tillable farmland.

We grow over 50 types of vegetables and herbs and specialize in heirloom tomato and unusual pepper varieties each chosen for its unique flavor. In recent years we have been branching out into growing vegetables popular in South Asian cuisine.

All 78 acres of our farm is USDA certified organic which means all of our practices and farmland follows the rules of the National Organic Program.

Snapping Turtle Farm is farmed by Allison Akbay, who grew up in nearby Belle Mead, NJ. Allison is the daughter of agronomist and soil scientist Dr. Harry Motto who taught at Cook college at Rutgers for many years and inspired Allison's commitment to improving soil fertility while also preserving the environment. Allison was an avid gardener for many years and became involved in the local organic food movement in the San Francisco Bay Area before switching careers and returning to New Jersey to start Snapping Turtle Farm.
